I made a scale based on "Dwarf Priest's" ratings:

http://dwarfpriest.com/2008/12/02/the-best-holy-priest-healing-gear/#about

Here it is:

( Pawn: v1: "HolyPriest": Intellect=0.74, RedSocket=11.4, CritRating=0.15, MetaSocket=15.54, HasteRating=0.35, BlueSocket=10.24, YellowSocket=11.84, SpellPower=0.6, Spirit=0.54, Mp5=1 )

The way I evaluated the gems was to use his lootrank link and pick the scores of the best non-epic gems for each socket color. That is:

Meta: Insightful Earthsiege Diamond
Yellow: Brilliant Autumn's Glow
Red: Runed Scarlet Ruby
Blue: Seer's Forest Emerald

I wonder if this is the way other people evaluate gems in their scales? About the meta-gem, its kind of hard to evaluate the proc "chance to restore mana". Can I do something about that?[/url]

That's a good way to pick socket values. For Insightful Earthsiege, it appears through Wowhead that it's exactly the same proc as Insightful Earthstorm. When I was picking out a value for my meta socket in TBC, I based it on Insightful Earthstorm, and I valued that proc at 6 MP5. (My value for MP5 is 4 points, and intellect is 1.4, so insightful earthstorm was 12*1.4 + 6*4 = 40.8.)

If you trust my math (I don't remember how I came up with 6 MP5... maybe it was just someone else's math on Wowhead), you could do something similar.

That's how I pick the weights for my gem sockets as well... different gems as I go by a slightly different scale, but close.

In general: Pick a gem that's best for each socket, and crunch out the numbers manually, then dump the results into that gem slot value.

I added a bunch of -99999s for the items you just cannot use! This way you don't get a number showing up on them :D

( Pawn: v1: "Heals": Intellect=0.74, IsFist=-999999, CritRating=0.15, HasteRating=0.4, IsCrossbow=-999999, IsThrown=-999999, Spirit=0.54, IsGun=-999999, YellowSocket=11.84, RedSocket=11.4, IsShield=-999999, MetaSocket=15.54, IsAxe=-999999, IsBow=-999999, IsMail=-999999, IsSword=-999999, IsLeather=-999999, ColorlessSocket=4, IsPlate=-999999, BlueSocket=10.24, Stamina=0.125, SpellPower=0.6, Mp5=1, IsPolearm=-999999 )
